cats on cats quilt

I'm new to quilting, this is the second quilt I've ever made (first being a baby quilt for a family member). I came across the cats on cats pattern by birch fabrics through tumblr and have been meaning to make it for over a year.

the fabrics for this quilt were all purchased locally at local shops & quilting events. it's very batik-heavy, I've found that's what I like working with the most! the pattern is originally for a full sized quilt; I wanted a queen. geometry is not my strong suit and I ended up doing the math to determine how much fabric each "cat" required versus how many cats would be needed to get to a queen size. I did end up buying more fabric, my math was wrong. whoops!

after sitting on the fabric for so long, I ended up zipping through it in about a month back in may. my intention was to have a new quilt to take camping, and the yearly camping trip I go on happens in june- I decided I wasn't going to wait another year for this quilt, haha.

cutting the fabric took the longest, and after that everything went extremely fast. the entire thing (including quilting) was sewn on my antique singer treadle. it's super satisfying to use, especially with quilting- the treadle table has a folding arm that helped support the bulk of the quilt.

I do really need to work on my actual quilting skills... and probably shouldn't have chosen a queen sized quilt as my second quilt. fingers crossed that it'll hold up in the long wrong, because the actual quilting is quite wonky. there is a seam on the top that's already busted, I'm hoping that it'll be easy to repair.

the quilt did end up completed before my big camping trip and has seen plenty of use since, I'm really happy with it. I have no plans for more quilts in the future, but I could totally see myself making more.
